PR Application - Second Time Around

We applied for PR in SG last 2010, applied as a couple, just few months after getting married. The results came out more than 3 months after our application and turned out to be NEGATIVE!

Within 2 years, we've stopped thinking of applying for PR again. When Aleina came into our lives, we've decided to apply for PR again. But before doing that, we've to furnish all our documents first especially our passports etc.

PR application can only be done via e-appointment, walkin is not allowed. 3 years back walkin application is allowed then. I checked on the ICA website to set an appointment for PR application. To my surprise, most of the time are already fully booked! I was just expecting that there may be only few who would like to apply for PR! The latest schedule I could find is April 16, 17 and on wards. I've choose April 16 @ 9:30am. This time, will be applying together with my baby Aleina.

The night before, we've prepared all our documents, sorted it accordingly and made some photocopied as listed in their requirements here. For work pass holders or skilled workers who want to apply for PR, you may download the application here. If your want to set appointment to apply PR, you may click here.

April 16, 2013. We woke up early morning. Pack up Aleina's things - diaper, wipes, food, milk, etc. We've asked Irish to come with us coz after this appointment, I need to go to office to work, same thing with Albert. Our appointment is 9:30am, we arrived in the ICA by 9:00am. We immediately proceed in the 4th floor (if I remember it correctly) coz we still need to get a photography to be pasted in our application form. There's queue in the photograph, but not that long. We managed for a photograph session before our scheduled time, and Aleina is a little cooperative in picture taking. Albert registered our appointment via kiosk and get a queue number. After few minutes of waiting, we're entertained past 9:30pm. Documents presentation was just quick, at least we've managed to submit all our documents completely with photocopies as required. It only takes about 20 minutes for presentation, no interviews, just to show original copy of the documents then submit the photocopies. Since I was not the primary application, I also included my 6 months payslips together with my Income Tax Documents for the past 3 years.

Once completed, I headed back to my work, while Irish, Albert and my baby travel together and separated in Seranggoon MRT - where will be easy for Irish to go back home.

It will be 3 months, 6 months and even more waiting... Waiting is just fine, just hoping for a positive results. As I've dream of this for my family, for the most important person in my life - my child, my Aleina.

Aleina's First Birthday Preparation - Where Tos?

Since I've got the idea of what to do, what to decorate, etc it's time for me to know how and where. Of course, with the help of google I am now have the will do execute all of it.

Below are my Where-To List for the party:

1. Where to get the catering?

Before I decide to which caterer I should choose, I've consider reading forums first where I can find good reviews based of the mummies's previous experience; first hand review from your friend is still much better. Anyway, well I can say that all experiences of one mummy to another is not always be the same. Below are the lists of catering I've found out that price is reasonable (for as low as $6, $8 you can find different variety of food from buffet to High Tea, etc)

2. Cake

Cake is one of the most important part of a birthday party where the celebrant can make a wish and blow the candle, well at this young age of course the celebrant cannot make a wish. I've almost opt for a design and customize my own cake according to my selected theme. Below are the list I've found for the list of cake/bake shop:

I've tried Cake Avenue during my baby's baptism last year. Their cake tastes good as well as their design. Most of our guests truly like our cake and got a good review. This time, I would like to try different bake shop and I've made an inquiry whether they do customize a cake according to my (Disney) Minnie Mouse theme, unfortunately they don't do accept orders for Disney theme due to copyright issue.

3. Cupcakes

I first thought of getting a cupcake with Sweetest Moments as I already liked the price and their design ($3.50 each with your desired theme cuztomization). But my friend, suggested that they could help me bake a cupcakes for me so I also agreed with that idea. Then suddently strikes me something like, why I cannot bake my own cupcakes? So I am planning to make it myself but I need to try it myself first lol. Coz I dont have any experience of baking.

4. Decorations

I was really amazed of almost of the designs shared by other mummies at Catch My Party http://catchmyparty.com/blog/free-pink-minnie-mouse-birthday-party-printables-from-printabelle Decoration ideals are almost complete as well as gathering and choosing which materials and crafts should i buy. I bought my paper and other craft materials at Art Friends.

I already gathered some designs and decorations. My to do list are the following:

  • Backdrop of DIY Photobooth
  • Wall Decorations
  • Sign Door Decoration
  • DIY HighChair Decoration
  • DIY Cake Stand Decoration
  • DIY Pinata
  • DIY Shirt Printing
I'm just asking myself, can I really do all these things? *sigh* Will update most probably after the party on July....

Art Friends has a wide varietly of items to sell starting from crafts, designing and a lot more. I strongly advise to go there personally and I'm sure you would like it... Their address:

Aleina's First Birthday Preparation - Key Elements

The Venue

It was 3 months before Aleina's birthday when I started to do some research of what I should do for her party. I've dropped the idea of going back too Philippines to celebrate her first birthday there due to financial reasons. If we will do it there, we'll expend for our air tickets (3 adults and an infant), plus fare to buses or rent a van, plus our daily expenses there and plus plus Aleina's party will be gonna big, as in big. For my estimates, I might have at least 100 guests (kids and adults) for her birthday, so we will need more money. So immediately drop it!

At first, I was thinking is to where is the best place for venue? In our house or rented out a venue. Pros and Cons...

Venue @ Home
+ can save more money
+ you can have more time to decorate
+ less transportation expense
+ Aleina is familiarize in this place so she might not be afraid if other or more people come in
+ If she naps, she will have a more good rest
+ can setup the room for the children to play
+ no time limit, can setup the xbox or videoke for the adult
- limited people can only seat.
- it might be crowded if invited more quests
- need to clean before and after the party

Venue @ The Studio (second attempt)
+ no need to pay for the rent but the expenses for food per pax is about $15
+ will be given 30minutes before the party to do the decoration
+ need to transfer all the things from our house to this venue, including decorations, etc
+ Aleina is not familiarize in this place, she might not want it
+ If she naps, she may not have a good nap/rest. Possible to throw tantrums during her party
+ No play area for the children
+ maximum of 4 hours, no extension unless we'll pay for it
- about 40 guests can be seatted althroughout the party
- The possibility of being crowded is always there coz it depends on the number of guests.
- no need to clean the area

For the above reasons, I decided to do the party at home. Since I'll be planning to used my (3 days) annual leave, I've plenty of time to do the cleaning in the entire house :). So, I am already ok with this. And besides, Albert already agreed of what I think of!

Choosing of the Theme

I initially want a theme party for my baby for the reason that all the planning will only commence if you have a theme. This time, I am now again closed with Mr. Google! I have tons and tons of researcha and ideas of what theme should I choose. Anyway, at the age of 1 Aleina cannot choose of what theme she wants. Though Aleina doesn't much appreciate this party or doesn't even remembered any single thing, I still want to throw this party for her coz I know in the future, she might not even remember but she can see it in the photos. How we've celebrated it. Life is short so I will enjoy every moment of it, with her!

First theme that comes to my mind was:

(1) a Garden theme - coz I bought a wall decal/stickers during Baby Fair which has the garden designs (bugs, bee, flower, etc)
(2) blocks - was little amaze of other party having this theme
(3) the Minnie Mouse (with Mickey Mouse) - since I was thinking of double birthday celebration (Aleina's first birthday and Albert's bday too)
(4) BumbleBee - Rio suggested this theme coz she thinks that Aleina is cute in her bee outfit. (We've got a home photoshoot last year when Aleina was 2 months old and wearing bee costume).

As for these theme, I've consulted my hubby which theme he would like most; and he choose Minnie Mouse. And to him, we could only celebrate Aleina's birthday alone, he doesn't want to mention his birthday if possible. But his main concern is Aleina should always be the highlight or focus of this celebration.

Sticking with Minnie Mouse theme, I've done more research on this. I found a very nice website called - http://catchmyparty.com ; where people from around the world share tips and ideas of what they've done with their parties. To be honest, I'm just looking at their photos... downloading here and there... and I'm having so much fun hahahaha.

Determining Date and Time

I was undecided of what date should we celebrate my baby's birthday coz Aleina's birthday falls on Monday (July 15) and Albert's birthday falls on Wednesday (July 17). Yes only 1 day apart! I had 2 options to choose:

  •     Post Birthday Celebration - Saturday, 20 July
  •     Pre Birthday Celebration - Sunday, 14 July
In the Philippines, if we cannot celebrate in the actual birthday then mostly celebrated it as post celebration while in Singapore is different, they mostly preferred it to be "pre celebration".

After so much considetation and discussing this with my beloved husband, we've decided to do it on Sunday 14th of July. Anyway, I'll be having 1 day before the party so I can make preparation and will have 3 more days to clean the aftermath and will just think that the next day is Aleina's actual birthday. So it is just right!

Since the celebrant is still very young and having more nap, I've considered to set the party after her nap time, so mort probably between 2-6pm. Ideally, I would have a short party for about 2-3hours.

Guests

Since we are too far from our family and relatives, as we're celebrating it here in Singapore. My number of guests might be around 30, more or less for adult, and 13 or less kids of ages 1-11 years old. Here, we have only 1 family - Ate Grace and her family, that's all! But we have quite a number of friends here, living and working here. They are also invited as our guests, including my colleagues, Aleina's godparents and Albert's colleagues.
